Neck Pain
- Cervical dystonia – Cervical dystonia usually presents as neck pain, abnormal neck and shoulder posture, neck muscle spasms and tightness, and a limited range of motion in the neck. Sometimes, the only symptom is a stubborn headache, which can be misdiagnosed as a migraine. Other times, it presents as a sense of imbalance or dizziness.
- Eagle syndrome – Eagle syndrome is named after Dr. Eagle, a North Carolina native and ENT faculty at Duke University Medical School back in the 1930s. The disease has extremely diverse clinical symptoms. It can present with ipsilateral neck, ear, throat, and facial pain. It can also present with ringing in the ears, hearing loss, hyperacusis (where noises sound much louder than normal). It can even present with hypertension and heart palpitations. In rare cases, it presents with stroke or carotid artery dissection or rupture, with bleeding in the throat.
- Neck spine arthritis
- Neck herniated disc
- Pinched nerve pain
- Radiculopathy
- Spinal stenosis
- Temporomandibular joint paint (TMJ) – The underlying cause of TMJ pain lies in the tightness and spasms of the masticatory muscles (the muscles that help you chew). TMJ pain often presents with two symptoms: tooth-grinding, which can be very loud during sleep; and jaw pain due to the excessive wear and tear at the anchor site for both upper and lower jaw. Therefore, relaxation of the masticatory muscles can greatly relieve pain and slow tooth decay.

Miscellaneous

- Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) – HS is a skin ailment that may result in the formation of painful lumps under the skin. In areas where skin rubs against skin, such as the armpits, groin, buttocks, and breasts, HS causes deep, painful boils or abscesses. The tumors may cause scarring and subcutaneous tunnels, heal slowly, and recur.
- Memory problems
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) pain
- Post-herpetic neuralgia (shingles pain) – Shingles is a viral infection from the herpes virus. It first erupts into a painful skin rash around the face, head, neck, chest, back, and upper thighs. As the rash improves, a searing, burning pain ensues. Postherpetic neuralgia is when the searing pain persists after the resolution of other symptoms such as the rashes. It is caused by neuropathic and inflammatory injury to the brain, spinal cord, dorsal root ganglion, sensory neurons, and peripheral nerve terminal.
